One of the key aspects to the ChannelCenter platform is undoubtedly the information dashboards which are found throughout the system – upon logging in, the user is immediately greeted with a homepage dashboard providing a high-level overview of important business statistics from within the system.

Dashboards are a very useful way to provide at-a-glance views of KPIs (key performance indicators) relevant to a particular objective or business process such as sales, marketing or production. Digital dashboards offer a consolidated view across the organization or platform regardless of where the data lives, thus providing a “snapshot” of performance, and allowing users to gauge how well the organization is doing on that particular measure.

The display of information in a visual or diagrammatic manner has increased exponentially of late, and is actually wired to the way we perceive information on a biological level. An MIT Sloan Management Review article titled ‘The Rise of Visual Content Online’ states that “Sight is our strongest sense: 90% of information transmitted to the brain is visual, and 40% of nerve fibers to the brain are connected to the retina. As a result of this hardwiring, visuals are processed faster in the brain than text. Not only are visuals processed faster, they are processed better. Some suggest that 80%–85% of our perception, learning, cognition, and other mental activities are mediated through vision.”

This then perhaps has something to do with the recent major rise in popularity of infographics and other forms of displaying information visually.

MIT Sloan Mangement Review again: “Data visualization tools and infographics have escalated in usage because of their superior ability to explain and portray relationships, trends, and results. In just 2 years, Google searches for infographics have risen 800%. In 2014, the usage of infographics in marketing rose from 9% to 52%, underlined by the fact that publishers who market with infographics achieve 12% more traffic growth.”
